My blisters do not feel too good and the first steps are a bit painful. At 7:30am I leave, walk along the railway line into Pingxi. Here I have a traditional breakfast in a small street side shop – Doutiang ( Tofu-Milk ), Baotze ( white bread with filling, like cabbage or pork ), Fan Tuan ( rice rolled tightly and filled with shreddered pork or cabbage ). [ Pingxi is famous for celebrating the Lantern Festival with Sky Lanterns. The lanterns are kind of hot air balloons made of waxed paper on a bamboo frame with a burning unit at the open bottom side. People write their wishes with Chinese brush and ink on the paper and watch the balloon fly into the dark sky. Its a pretty sight when hundrets of laterns float in the sky. Pingxi is then full of people. Lanterns can be bought at any time of the year. ] At 10:00 am I arrive at Shifenliao village, a pretty little village along the railway line, beside the river and with a suspension bridge. Nearby is the famous waterfall with same name and a very good small coal museum. I rest for 20 minutes at this peaceful village in the morning sun …
