It all goes fast as I have already packed. I buy my breakfast from the 7-11 around the corner and then take a bus to the Taitung city border. I have walked all this basically yesterday. This bus goes all the way to the south, to Pingtung. Just after 6:00 am I begin my walk, again over a very long bridge crossing a hudge river delta. Remember, from which ever side you cross a long bridge, you are either entering or leaving Taitung to the south or north. Until the turn-off to Jhihben I am still on coastal road No.11, but then the road goes over into No.9 along the coast ( between Hualien and Taitung No. 9 is the Inner Rift Valley road ). The next 5 km go away from the coast along houses and small business as well as the aboriginal village Taimali. When I get back to the coast the water shines in all shades of blue and green. When I can oversee the next 10 km I see that the raod goes up and back down again. I decide to walk on the sand along the beach. We interviewed him in Taitung about the history of maritime Asia, China’s impact on Japanese development through the Ryukyu tributary kingdom and what Japan can learn from Ryukyu in the modern day.
