As of Novermber 26, 2008, it has been revealed that up to 90% of US-made infant formula may be contaminated with trace amount of melamine. This is the same chemical which was implicated in September 2008 in causing illness in over 50000 Chinese children and at least 4 deaths. If you are about to give birth and have been thinking about giving your baby formula, you may want to reconsider. This is only one of many formula-associated health risks. I am not suggesting in any way that this contamination was intentional. However, I do consider highly imprudent the FDA’s refusal to recall the formula and their sudden unscientifically based declaration that under 1ppm of melamine is safe for babies. *************************************** If you are looking for an organic brand of baby food that will not contain milk from cows fed feed with melamine: *Nature’s One* All formulas of this brand have been listed as organic by Greepeace and do not contain GMO foods and they have not, at this point, been implicated in the melamine scandal.

In China, baby milk powder containing toxic levels of the chemical Melamine killed four children and left more than 50000 others sick. The government eventually ordered a recall of suspected toxic products, but that message did not reach some remote areas.
