John, our driver, dropped us at the Reef Fleet Terminal, where I boarded the Habitat Cruise to Trinity Inlet. Although this was billed as a willife cruise, it turned out to be more of a maritime history of Trinity Inlet with lots of details about every boat we saw anchored along the way. One woman did get on the mike and talk about the ecological importance of mangroves for a while, and she pointed out a few birds. One was the White Breasted Sea Eagle (Osprey) which we saw land in a tree along the way. We also saw a large saltie on the bank. Most of us watched from inside the cabit as we traveled up the inlet because there was a steady rain falling the entire morning. Eventually, the boat dropped us off at a pier severa km up the inlet where we were picked up by a motor coach for a tour of the local crodile farm. This farm gets wild crocodiles that are causing problems in populated areas. They capture them, and bring them to the farm where they are kept until they die. As part of their “rent” the farm collects any eggs that are laid. The eggs are hatched out in a hatchery there and the babies are raised for commercial purposes.
