A TripAdvisor™ TripWow video of a travel blog to Taipei, Taiwan by TravelPod blogger Alaskateam. See this TripWow and more at tripwow.tripadvisor.com Tourist Day in Taipei ” Our ten-hour flight from Anchorage to Taipei was filled with movies, meals, reading, visits, and naps. Due to a previous flight cancellation before our departure from Fairbanks, we are now scheduled to have 24-hours in Taipei, Taiwan. China Air was kind enough to offer us lodging vouchers, as well as to store our luggage securely in the airport. We landed at 6:30am, found our hotel easily, and enjoyed a shower and a quick rest before meeting in the hotel restaurant for a meal. The buffet offered both American and Asian breakfast choices, and we sampled a little of each. Then we were off to our next adventure of exploring Taipei. Jack elected to stay at the hotel to contact another missionary friend for a visit. The rest of us acquired basic info from the hotel desk of how to connect to the rail system. We had a quick ride in a shuttle, and made a new friend of our driver, Rock. He took us to the nearby train terminal, and gave us some easy instructions. The island is covered by lava rocks and surrounded on all sides by coral reefs. There are sandy beaches, but they aren’t great for wading because of the sharp coral; on the other hand, the coral and clear blue water make for some of the best snorkeling and SCUBA diving in the world. Something else amazing about Green Island is that geo-thermal activity deep below the ground gives rise to therapeutic salt water hot springs, a rarity that can be found in only two other locations on the planet (those being Italy and Japan). With salt water hot springs, volcanic rock formations, underground caves, and lush green mountains rising steeply out of the blue Pacific, Green Island is a tropical playground virtually unknown to tourists around the world. I am here enjoying this Taiwanese jewel with my friend and co-worker Tracy, who took a 4-day vacation to travel with me before I leave the country. We arrived on Green Island on Thursday (3/10) afternoon and were greeted by bright sunshine and blue skies. We rented mopeds, and after a brief accident in which Tracy took out a sign that got in …
