HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM) — It’s a technology millions of people use every day and a large part of it all started in Holland. The Lakeshore business, Touch Revolution, is one of the leaders of projected capacitive touch screen technology. It is the kind of technology that powers devices like the iPad, iPod and various smartphones on the market. “It’s all about creating that emmersive experience that people really like and enjoy and expect when they come to pick up a device,” said Product Line Director Gene Halsey. “TouchRev” is all about using that technology for business and in larger devices like kiosks at museums, airports and malls or devices that display presentations for offices. Instead of just single “tapping” screens, the company is concentrating on developing intuitive control schemes found on home devices. “When you pick up your iPad, you know what you’re supposed to do with it,” Halsey said. “We want that same thing to happen when you’re checking out at Meijer or when you’re going to the bank. We want that same kind of experience that people get excited about using.” The engineers at TouchRev have been in developing this technology in Holland for close to 30 years. “Sleepy little Holland is one of the birthplaces of touch,” Halsey said. “In the early 80′s, we really brought out touch technology and commercialized it.” Since touch-tech became relevant for consumers, Halsey says the company has expanded.
