Tiansiang is a large river terrace recreational area beside route 8 in Taroko National Park, Hualien county, Taiwan. This is where the Da-sha and Ta-cih Jili rivers converge to become the Li-wu river. This area has large parking lot, the 5 star Grand Formosa Taroko hotel, the Tiansiang Youth Activity Center (Hostel), a Catholic Church, Plum Garden recreational area, the Tiansiang Presbyterian Church, a bus station and some small shops which sell food etc. If you can afford it, then stay a night at the Grand Formosa hotel because their rooms are good, the breakfast is excelent and is a smorgert board style, but best of all, they have an olympic size crystal clear swimming pool on the roof of the hotel. The pool is surrounded by manacured lawn with a nearby area for people to just sit down and tottally absorb the incredible views and sounds of this area of the gorge both by day and night. It actually looks as though the hotel had deliberitly blended the roof of the hotel with the natural environment surrounds. Tiansiang ( Tian-xiang = Heaven’s village ) is also the best place to base yourself if you really want to explore all of what the gorge has to offer, there is also a camp ground nearby.
