A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Taipei, Taiwan by TravelPod blogger Matthewgoodwin titled “Taipei 101″ Matthewgoodwin’s travel blog entry: “This afternoon, Marlene, Alexandra, and I went to Taipei to visit the 2-28 Peace Park and Taipei 101. 2-28 Peace Park was built to commemorate a riot that happened many years ago spawning from a police assault on a single woman. It led to crosscountry riots and numerous deaths. The park is meant to keep this horrible day of 2/28 from recurring again. The Taipei 101 building is currently the tallest building in the world. I don’t remember the specifics to height. It is about 90 floors. There are 2 elevators to the top that share the world’s record for being the fastest. We went up to the top in about 37 seconds; it barely felt like it. When walking to the tower it was sunny. We then entered the mall in the bottom that had lots of chic stores and a huge food court. There was a wonderful supermarket that reminded me of Byerly’s in Minnesota and Wegman’s in Maryland. Marlene and I went buck wild with things we needed (and didn’t need). When we went to the top, unfortunately, it was dark and foggy. So, there was a poor view of the city below. They gave us hand held speakers to provide a nice tour of the facility in English. There was also beautiful art made of coral and a skycafe at the top. In the center was a dampening ball that reduced the effects of vibrations to the building… very cool to us nerds.” Read and see …
