This day we woke bright and early. It was the first night without waking to fireworks, but this time it was a rooster, and if the rooster was quiet then the pig was not. And if the pig was not, well there were always the puppies. We ate breakfast with the family from the night before and planned our day. We decided to take a boat from the caohai (swamp) area of the lake over to Lige, a more touristy area according to the lonely planet guide, but less touristy than Luoshui. So the chengdu people from the night before also wanted to take a boat so we all walked over to the dock. Now these are not motor boats by any stretch of the imagination, they are not even canoes. The boats are called, roughly translated, pig trough boats because they look like troughs. I look at the strong, young, good-looking mosuo boys and then see that the boat they are pointing me to is with an older dude and a lady. Now this is not in any stretch of the imagination a knock against women, but it’s a long way to Lige. A long way under good conditions actually, and when we set out there was Caitlin, me and our things which together is probably 4 chinese people, plus 3 other chinese people. and then the rowers own weight.
