A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Shanghai, China by TravelPod blogger Carlier titled “Shanghai Surprise!” Carlier’s travel blog entry: “We arrived in Shanghai, the biggest city in the world 17million people. (Incidentally, Cairo, Sao Paulo & Mexico City also make the same claim) We planned to stay in the municipality for 6 days and had a packed time taking in all the sights this place had to offer. Shanghai sums up the Chinese economic miracle and her arrival on the world stage better than any other. Millions of people everywhere, vast construction projects all over the city, great infrastructure and a skyline to match anywhere in the world. The World Expo is taking place here from early April to late October. Each country on earth taking the opportunity to showcase its innovative talents together with its tourism and trade opportunities. Alongside each of the national ‘Pavilions’ a selection of major global cities had separate exhibitions of their own. Needless to say the best pavilion was the Liverpool one! Yes, even I was quite shocked (but naturally my smile said it all!) to see that Liverpool were mixing it with all the other cities & countries, later discovering that Liverpool is twinned with Shanghai. The town itself is gorgeous and feels surprisingly like a European city with beautiful churches, catherdrals and general architecture…one could wile away many an hour in the balconies overlooking the town square (which we found usually involves observing at least 1 fight between locals…v odd but amusing!). The shopping is also pretty good (there goes another week´s budget!)! But we couldnt stay in the luxuries of the city for long…the spirits of the incas were calling us to follow in their footsteps! When booking the Inca Trail we were perhaps somewot too confident in our manly strength and decided we definitely didnt need a porter 2 help carry our stuff…that would just b weak!! However, after chatting to an assortment of people, all of whom were much larger and more manly than us,who had just completed the trail WITH a porter, we began to panic. Thankfully, at our briefing we discovered that 2 people had just pulled out and so there was a spare porter…whoever these people r we thank u from the bottom of our …
