Everest” Lonelytraveller’s travel blog entry: “After arriving at Lhasa, I began to join others to do other trips around: to a 2-day trip to the holy lake Nammucho, and a 16 day long trip to the remote part of Ah Li (an average altitude of over 4000 meters) that include Mt. Everrest or Jumulongma as we called it in Chinese. In this journey, I also had walked round Mt. Kalish, the holiest mountain. It was a tiresome journey but worthwhile. This time I joined a group of eight, three from hong Kong and five from the mainland. Four ladies and four men. I was the oldest among them. We hired two vans with two Tibtan drivers. I was surprised to find that about half of the road had been paved and there was a lot of construction work going on. The drivers sometimes had to drive up to ten hours a day. They were joyous fellows but drank too much of the soft drink with stimulants. I worried about their health as they went to the bar to drink alcohol with our boys at night and slept quite late. Luckily they didn’t smoke too heavily. Indeed, they did not smoke while driving because they understood that we ladies didn’t like smoking. The Tibetan drivers (in their twenties) and the Han boys were like brothers. Once they told we ladies to go away as they stripped off all their clothes to have a dip in the freezing holy lakes.
