We actually went to Mui Ne and then Nha Trang… Anyway… We got a short bus journey from Sai Gon to Mui Ne; a small beach side town thats just working its way into the guide books. Encompassed by the China Sea to the east and desert to the west Mui Ne is very tropical and has an amazing landscape with huge land dunes, coconut trees and canyons. We only spent two nights here as there isn’t much to do apart from visit the desert and walk up the beach. The desert is about an hours drive from the main town to a small village where local kids let you rent sand boards to slide down the massive sand dunes. The views were amazing and it felt as though we were in the middle of the Sahara. We all watched the sun set over the dunes and went back to the guest house with mouths full of sand from the boarding. Our next destination – 8 hours north of Mui Ne on the east coast – was Nha Trang. Perhaps the most popular beach resort in Viet Nam, Nha Trang has large beach, good nightlife and good food. Apart from that there is little to do here. Like Sihanoukville in Cambodia we spent the best part of the day on the beach and in the sea where the waves are huge, some reaching almost 5 meters high.
