Intravenously fed trees. The Shanghai World Fair Expo. Hand-made noodles, freshly steamed dumplings, exotic meats and candies. Warm, welcoming smiles. Helping Hands. Bustling markets, with everything from live turtles to little trinkets, lavish threads and a plethora of Antique Tibetan Artifacts. Breathtaking architecture, stunning performance arts, cutting edge technology, sights and sounds – from the pre-historic to the pinnacle of now, telling tales of war and reconstruction, colonialism, nationalism, revolution and ideals – Tai Chi, cucumbers, karaoke, dragons and hot water heaters. A fast-paced communist nation with capitalist dreams! The 2010 Shanghai World Fair, was where I lived and worked for one month, singing pop music. The Expo runs through October of this year, and is simply THE largest international event ever held, with more than 70 million visitors expected; the largest gathering of people on Earth EVER! Packed with hundreds of National and Corporate pavilions, thousands of rotating cultural shows and millions of bourgeois pejorative sell-outs, hundreds of thousands of visitors wait up to 12 hours or more in line each day. The Expo ranges from interesting and innovative; creative, sustainable 21st century solutions, ideas and designs, to being sickeningly tacky and bazaar; Big Babies with Bubbles, really Spain? The People’s Democratic Republic of Korea, all rainbows and smiles? Oooook… I have to say, I saw lots of Cheap labor, from around the world …
Burrowing through the center of the earth.
