After paying my nights accommodation I grabbed my map and decided to begin my ‘Zhongshan Road and Around Town Temple Tour’ at the big round a bout at the beginning of Wenlin Nan Road (down past the bus station). At the round-a-bout I took the road going right (to Xiamen) and found a little lane way. Down here I found two tiny temples marked on my map. In the second one I met the cutest old lady. She giggled and gigged and repeated the word Australia over and over again. When I was about to leave she waddled in front of me and motioned for me to follow her. So follow I did. She then took me around the huge block and showed me to several more temples. Most didn’t look like temples on the outside, in fact they either looked like houses or stores but once the door was opened you stepped into a beautiful temple. Surprise to me! After saying goodbye to my beautifully wrinkled guide I mazed my way to the Palace of the Celestial Empress. It was built in 1196 (2nd year of the Qing Yuan Song Dynasty). The inside temple is known as the Tianhou Temple or the Historical Museum of Relationship Between Fujian and Taiwan. This is due to people leaving Fujian and moving to places like Taiwan …
