We went there with a minibus and there were about 20 other passengers on board. The meeting time was around 6 am and we were there on time. After picking up other passengers and a quick take away at the Mac Donald’s, “we were on our way to the Shanxi province”. That was what I thought until we run into an enormous traffic jam at the exit road of Beijing. Its October and everyone has a couple of days off….. After about 40 minutes we finally pass the crossroads and exit Beijing. The Shanxi province is famous for it’s coals and fine dust. The landscape isn’t beautiful and its quite boring and the only really interesting places are Heng Shan and Pingyao. After we arrived in Pingyao, we searched for a hotel for the upcoming 2 nights. Almost all the rooms in every hotel look the same. Just some are bigger and cleaner but there all “old style” Chinese rooms. In Pingyao cars are forbidden and people still live like in the old times. Of course there are hundreds of tourism stands and they sell everything; “antique things”, stamps, maps, paintings, food, etc. But you just have to look past through that and then you see an ancient city that it almost untouched. There is enough to see in the city itself and a one day tour gives you an impression of what the city contains …
