CHAN: As the weather in China gets colder, the hot pot business is getting hotter. But in our next story, an unlikely ingredient is being added to attract and keep customers. [Canton Resident]: “They put opium in the hot pot. People go in the morning and then want to eat there again in the evening. Why? Because they are addicted.” [Mr. Lee, Sichuan Province Resident]: “My friend is running a hot pot restaurant. He tells me that by adding opium business has gotten to be very good. Even though the Ministry of Health has banned opium in the food service industry, government officers don’t do anything to stop it.” Customers say this has been going on for years.
