I thought I should at very least include a description of the shots. It’s also nice to have something of a journal entry. I should start out by saying that so far I have absolutely loved this trip and it reinforces the decision to spend ridiculous sums of money to attend Thunderbird. Maybe that’s why this email ended up so long. Hopefully I can be more concise for the others… Starting the trip off with Hong Kong was definitely a good move. The look, feel of this city seemed so distinctive with its unique status, history, and location. I was most impressed by the architecture, massive street billboards, and extreme helpfulness of service staff. The Chinese take neon to a whole new level, as you can see in these pics and also the yet-to-come Shanghai shots. Though these are the two most developed Chinese cities, it was surprising to me just how futuristic they were with the buildings, public transportation systems, airports, advertising, electronics, etc. I’m sure this is partly pure commerce and partly a display by the government. The entire East is basically one giant blanket sky of black soot, with 3 days of blue sky. Hong Kong, Chongqing, good examples. More people, more skyscrapers, no room to breath with these buildings buidling a wall effect like a frog in a well. You can hardly breathe, you are packed in trains and apartments like sardines, the noise level is deafening, clean water is no where, rivers and oceans run with dead bodies and are basically giant sewers of giant waste, the roads and streets and cities are covered in human and animal waste and garbage. Think one giant toilet. This is not an exaggeration. People are leaving Hong Kong employment, Olympic competitors won’t compete in Beijing, tourists can’t visit many cities anymore, reporters throw up right when entering India, these are in major famous locations, places you see in the movies and media and television and magazines and the Internet, and they are not portrayed realisticly, are photo-enhanced or doctored, majority lies, all for tourist money that they depend on, and which the Media spins from a few …
