A short walk to the MRT, we bought a day travelcard for 0 TWD ( is refunded on return of the card) and headed to Taipei City Hall station. As we emerged from the station, a completely different picture of Taipei was painted. Pristine new high rise developments, landscaped gardens, continental boutiques and eateries. This would be the side of Taipei painted for all tourists and we were about to explore it. Armed with our brochure map we headed for the Taipei 101 tower, which wasn’t actually that hard to find as it stands out like a menacing figure above any surrounding buildings. Its design was based on bamboo, where every shift in its architecture represents a cross section on its cane. A mean feat was to try and capture the whole building within a single photograph, which after a little bit of effort, I managed to do.
