But some victims’ family members feel the sentence is not severe enough. STORY: Zheng Shuzhen said her granddaughter died in June last year because of kidney failure after drinking melamine-tainted milk. Her granddaughter’s death wasn’t included in the official statistics. The child was counted as one of the 300000 children sickened by the chemical. Parents gathering in front of a Chinese court were anxious to know the verdict of Tian Wenhua, the ex-chairwoman of Sanlu dairy company. Tian was sentenced to life. [Zheng Shuzhen, Grandmother of Deceased Child]: “She (Tian Wenhua) should have been shot. Why? Because at the moment they have only reported six deaths, but in fact we don’t know how many have actually died altogether. If they had reported more deaths she would have been executed. But they reported too few and spared her life. They have reported the living (children) but not the dead ones.” Zhao Lianhai, father of a child who was made sick from drinking Sanlu milk, didn’t agree with the verdict either.
