A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Arlington, United States by TravelPod blogger Torial titled “First day in Washington DC” Torial’s travel blog entry: “The cherry blossom festival is on in DC, and the cherries and magnolias look wonderful. I feel like I must have walked 30km today, and had to walk another few km to get to the Borders book store so I have wifi access to update my travel log. The hotel wants to charge for something which is free in so many places in the US. I took the Metro from the Pentagon Centre (two blocks from the hotel) into the middle of the National Mall. The all-day ticket was .80, which is pretty good, considering how extensive and relatively clean the rail system is. I took the obligatory photos of the Washington Monument, Capitol Building, various Smithsonian Buildings and the Lincoln Memorial. You really have to stand next to the Washington Monument to get an idea of just how enormous it is. I didn’t have the stamina to wait in line for hours to take the white-house or capitol building tours, and besides, I’ve seen the inside on ‘West Wing’ anyway. The Scottish Rite Freemasonry Temple (Dan Brown’s Lost Symbol) was a bit disappointing considering how far I had to walk to get there. No men in black cloaks drinking blood or sacrificing virgins. Now that I’ve walked most of the city, I can decide what to have a closer look at tomorrow.” Read and see more at: www.travelpod.com Photos from this trip: 1. “Magnolias” 2 …
