Termfinder – Jargon-busting and Concept-building an online Learning Tool
TermFinder is a new multimodal online learning tool, designed to help beginning and international students with technical concepts and terminology that challenge them in many academic disciplines. For each discipline (eg statistics, biology, accountancy), a unit-specific termbank is built collaboratively by specialist academic staff and expert linguist-lexicographers. TermFinder users benefit by intelligent software which can respond to their queries both directly and laterally with related terms, and display them graphically in conceptual sets. For each headword the software supports audiofiles of its pronunciation, and a translation (into Chinese etc.) to assist those whose first language is not English.
