geniusChinese is a patent-pending system that shows how to imagine each of the 5467 simplified characters as a picture or a combination of pictures, without getting into the technique details of how the character evolves from its pictograph. Each stroke of a Chinese character is colored according to a part of the picture. This vivid and direct contrast between a simplified character and a picture helps a learner to understand and memorize the meaning of the character more efficiently than studying the character’s archaic form. A pronunciation mnemonics, an English word that shares the first few letters of the Pinyin of the Chinese character, is provided for many characters. Each character is also accompanied with a brief rhyme explaining the picture and reciting its pronunciation. When a student who may not fully appreciate the meaning of the rhyme imitates it for a couple of times, they are still able to retain the character’s prounuciation by using the rhyme as a clue.
