I have the great luck to be able to stay with my fabulous friends Kevin and Rayne and their daughters and pets for the next 3 weeks here in Changhua (pronounced ‘Jung-wa’), Taiwan. I flew into the Taipei airport, which is actually southwest of the city of Taipei and is located in Taoyuan. It took no time to get through immigration (although I couldn’t quite figure out how to fill out portions of the form as I am a bit confused as to Taiwan’s relationship to China and I will be going to both places). I have since learned that Taiwan and China agree to disagree as to the political relationship between the two as both claim to be the true and only Chinese governments. Taiwan is known as the Republic of China whereas mainland China is the People’s Republic of China. I’m sure I will learn more about the whole complex relationship the longer I stay here! Anyhow, what was I saying… oh yeah, immigration was a breeze but the wait for my luggage was similar to the waits at the Halifax Airport – I’m sure my suitcase must have been sent on its own flight!
