One of my room mates, just the one beside me, has the glorious idea to take a shower ( just on my other side ) at 4:30 am – all others did so the evening before. Sleep over. All others stand up past 5:00 am and begin packing ( quietly ), but anyhow I am awake. I have breakfast with the other neighbor, again without his wife – maybe someone should have a look in his room . When I walk down the valley of the park I use the small side trails, see a lady waiting quietly to take bird photos, have little chats with some of my friends, the park rangers at first and then the ticket booth guy, who exits his booth to ask how everything worked out. Then up to No. 7, then continuous up from km 52 to 60, thereafter 400m down into a gorge along a meandering river until the the final stretch up to Lishan with beautiful mountain views and the Deji reservoir in the sunshine. The temperature, although it’s sunny, is nice at this altitude and time of year. The only bad thing is the hurting foot. [ Fire lines: What I observe quite frequent on the mountains are lines without trees, resembling scars or bulwarks. Later I will learn that these are 30 to 50 m wide fire lines cut …
