We were heading out to visit Jacy’s grandparents in Guang-Fu. We had supper in Guang-Fu and visited some relatives there. The weather was pleasantly cool for summer in the 70′s and damp after a recent rain. Guang-Fu is a quiet rift valley town in the middle of miles of rice a sugarcane fields. The valley it sits in is borded by mountains blanketed by deep green jungle rainforest made up of palm trees and bamboo. Large white clouds hover over the mountains every day and cool breezes waft down from the hills. The ocean was a 45-minute drive over a low range of coastal mountains. Along the coast the weather was breezy and clear with a few clouds and strong sunshine. We visited Eight-Fairies Cave on the hope of finding some surf, but the waves were too small. We continued south to a famous park with an 8-arch bridge leading out to a scenic island. We wandered around the island, clambered over the bridge, and collected some stones from the pebble beach. After the bridge, we headed south toward the southernmost tip of Taiwan. We were trying to circumnavigate the southernmost point before reaching Kenting, but we missed our turnoff and ended up taking a more direct route.
