A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Daren, Taiwan by TravelPod blogger Kurtmult titled “A long way on lonely coastal road – Daren” Kurtmult’s travel blog entry: “Route: Jinluen – Daren Total distance: 30 km Altitude up: 150m Altitude down: 150m At 6:45am I am on the road to Daren, the village where road No.9 leaves the coast to cross over to Pintung. My maps shows a dotted line, which may continue along the coast. I am not sure what the ‘dotted’ line means, perhaps ‘in planning’, or ‘dirt road’. At the police staion I ask and they tell me that there is no road and confirm it by a phone call to the sister station in Dawu. The places here in the South get more and more lonely. It will be a hot day and as the sun risis in the East it’s already hot at 8:00am in the morning, luckily the wind blows a bit. Still I take cover under my umbrella. It is time that I get to Kenting to reach at least the mosr southern point as the heat will just get worse. It is really a lonely stretch, very few small villages, many abandoned places, no tourist attractions and no coffee shops, just coastal landscape. I walk through a fishing village where they are just unloading big seized ocean fishes. Daren turns out to be a lonely place with nothing going on and difficult to find a place to stay. So I take the bus back to Jinluen and say ” Hello, I am back for the second night ” to the landlord of the Spa hotel where I stayed last night. Then I wash clothes, have late lunch, walk to …

A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Tienshe, Taiwan by TravelPod blogger Kurtmult titled “Despite pouring rain we try Nenggau trail (No.14)” Kurtmult’s travel blog entry: “Total kilometers: 26 Total ascent: 900m to 2.840m A look out of the window does not offer a big surprise – fog and still some rain, although not as strong. D ecision T ime: to go or not to go. We decide to give it a try. We got so far and we have arranged with the mountain hut that the hut keeper and a cook will be there, as well as a group of 30 hikers, not only for us. We have breakfast, say good bye to the workers and the landlord drives us to the trail entrance, which turns out to be exactly the dirt road in the turn I had look at. I have a bad feeling as I remember the landslide just a few hundret meters from the road. A decision is a decision – off we go. The Nengau trail itself is 26 km long, including the roads leading to it about 90. The trail in the west ( our side ) begins at about 1900m and goes up to Tienshe hut at 2700m, the highest point of the trail and exactly in the middle at km 13. The trail goes up smoothly and the only challanges are the landslides. From the hut a round trail combines the two mountains Chilai South mountain and Nenggau mountain, each over 3000m – it can be done in 6 to 8 hours. For these two mountains many like to start early in the dark to see the sunrise. For now it is not possible to cross over to the East side ( Hualien County ) due to …
